Access to Justice Committee
The Access to Justice Committee's mission is to support and help strengthen an integrated statewide network to increase the delivery of legal services to the poor of Louisiana.
The Access to Justice Committee was established in 1996 to consolidate the efforts of two existing LSBA committees (The Legal Services Committee and The Volunteers In Public Service Committee). As the mission states, the committee helps to strengthen an integrated delivery network by supporting all those who deliver legal services to the poor. The current committee is comprised of 40 volunteer members, both attorneys and non-attorneys, with the common interest of assisting the indigent with their legal needs. These volunteers, with various backgrounds, reside throughout Louisiana and include corporate counsel, legal service attorneys, legal educators, large and small firm representatives, and pro bono directors. Their diverse backgrounds only enhance the committee's ability to work through initiatives from a variety of approaches.

LSBA and ATJ honor Pro Bono Volunteers
5/20/2008
The Louisiana State Bar Association and Louisiana Supreme Court honored those individuals and firms who distinguished themselves by providing exceptional pro bono services for their communities this past year. Rule 6.1 of Louisiana’s Rules of Professional Conduct suggests each attorney provide at least 50 hours of volunteer legal services each year to benefit those who are unable to afford legal representation. The individuals honored at the May 20 ceremony held at the Supreme Court in New Orleans met and well surpassed this aspirational goal of 50 hours per year.
