Salyria Gumms
Salyria L. Gumms is the Managing Attorney of SLLS's Houma Office. She practices general civil law. She obtained her law degree from Louisiana State University and her undergraduate degree from Nicholls State University.
Salyria's entire professional career has been with Legal Services. She worked with North Louisiana Legal Assistance in Tallulah, LA first as a Reginald Heber Smith Community Lawyer Fellow, and then as a staff attorney from 1983 to 1986. In 1986 she joined the staff of Capital Area Legal Services where she served as Staff Attorney, Managing Attorney and Deputy Director.
She was appointed Acting Executive Director of Capital Area Legal Services in 2010, at which time she took on the tasks of overall management and improvement of the program. Later, Salyria worked to transition the legal services delivery to the Baton Rouge, Houma and river region from Capital Area Legal Services to Southeast Louisiana Legal.
She joined the Southeast Louisiana Legal Services on August, 2011 as Managing Attorney of the Houma Office. She is currently assists clients in family, family violence, consumer, housing, successions, and juvenile cases.
