LSBA Recognizes Legal Professionals, Law Students, Law Firm, Public-Interest Group for Pro Bono Achievements
NEW ORLEANS — The Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA), in conjunction with the Louisiana Supreme Court, recognized the outstanding pro bono accomplishments of 13 legal professionals, four law students, a law firm and a public-interest legal organization at the 25th annual Pro Bono and Children’s Law Awards Ceremony on May 25 at the Louisiana Supreme Court Building in New Orleans. Letter to the Editor: Education Key to Making Informed Legal Decisions, LSBA Says
In light of the April 20 oil rig explosion and subsequent oil spill, the Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA) is working with other state legal entities to disseminate information to residents about attorneys’ duties and responsibilities, as governed by the Louisiana Rules of Professional Conduct, specifically in the area of client solicitation following accidents and disasters.

LSBA, La. Civil Justice Center Establish Hotline Servicesfor BP Explosion/Oil Spill Victims
NEW ORLEANS—The Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA) and the Louisiana Civil Justice Center (LCJC) have joined forces once again in the establishment of a free consumer assistance hotline for victims of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion on April 20, and the subsequent oil spill inching closer to Louisiana’s coastline. Today, LSBA President Kim M. Boyle said the LCJC hotline’s increased viability is in direct response to the rising number of complaints regarding improper solicitation of victims by both Louisiana and out-of-state attorneys in the aftermath of this disaster. Schiff Receives Louisiana State Bar Association’s Professionalism Award
NEW ORLEANS—Opelousas attorney Leslie J. Schiff received the Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA) Committee on the Profession’s Professionalism Award during the LSBA’s Midyear Meeting in New Orleans Jan. 23. Schiff, who served as LSBA president in 1989-90, received the award for his outstanding leadership, guidance and assistance in the creation and implementation of the law school professionalism orientation programs and the LSBA’s character and fitness programs and for his lifelong dedication to the bench, bar and profession.
