Davidson III, senior partner in the Lafayette firm of Davidson, Meaux, Sonnier, McElligott, Fontenot, Gideon & Edwards, L.L.P., was installed June 30 as the 71st president of the Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA), in conjunction with the LSBA’s Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, Nev. Attorneys, Baton Rouge Bar Receive 2011 LSBA Young Lawyers Section Awards

LSBA Honors Exceptional Louisiana Pro Bono Work
NEW ORLEANS -- The Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA), in conjunction with the Louisiana Supreme Court, hosted the 26th Annual Pro Bono Awards Ceremony on May 24th. Marta-Ann Schnabel, LSBA Access to Justice Committee Chair, and Luz M. Molina, Access to Justice Committee Vice Chair, presented the awards to the 2011 Pro Bono Publico and Children’s Law Award recipients. The ceremony was held in the Louisiana Supreme Court Building in New Orleans, and was followed by a reception.

LSBA, Just the Beginning Foundation Present Inaugural Legal Internship Program for High School Students
NEW ORLEANS — The Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA) is partnering with the Just the Beginning Foundation to present the inaugural “Suit Up for the Future” High School Summer Legal Institute and Internship Program. Seventeen New Orleans area high school juniors and seniors have been selected for the inaugural group and will participate in the five-week program (June 20-July 25), which includes lectures, field trips to New Orleans area courts and law schools, shadowing attorneys in area law firms, and mock trial competitions.

LSBA Study Indicates Legal Services Programs Create Much-Needed Jobs and Extra Income to State of Louisiana
A new study estimates that the four Louisiana legal services programs provide an economic impact of between $70 million to $107 million in total economic transactions to the state of Louisiana. Those same services contribute $2.9 million to $4.4 million to state and local tax collections each year. For every dollar spent, the study shows legal services programs return $1.55-$2.40 to the Louisiana economy. The study, conducted by Dr. James A. Richardson, alumni professor of economics at Louisiana State University, also estimates that legal services programs account for estimated personal earnings of $21.6 million to $33.2 million each year in Louisiana, and support between 851 and 1,309 jobs.
