Paris Bar Invites Young Lawyers to Participate in Traineeship
LSBA President Richard K. Leefe announced that the Ordre des Avocats de Paris (the Paris Bar) is offering Louisiana young lawyers an opportunity to participate in a traineeship called “Stage International.” LSBA members who meet the requirements outlined in the accompanying letter and are interested in participating should contact Leefe no later than June 24 at (504)830-3939 or by email at rkleefe@leefegibbs.com.
May 3, 2013
Dear President Leefe:
As in every year, in October and November 2013, the Paris Bar will organize a traineeship known as the “Stage International,” intended to educate young French-speaking foreign lawyers who want to discover our law and practice of the legal profession in France in an international environment.
In 2012, this traineeship drew 52 young lawyers from 35 different countries from every continent.
In October, young lawyers selected will attend courses on the legal system, legal ethics and legal procedures in France at the Ecole de Formation du Barreau which trains lawyers in Paris, taught by some of the most distinguished and highly qualified French instructors in Paris.
Then, in November, they will have practical experience in a law firm. We select host firms ourselves in order to ensure that they are adapted to our foreign lawyers’ needs.
This international traineeship — the meeting place for lawyers who would like to compare legal practices — offers the unique opportunity to create a sustainable professional and friendly network between young lawyers from diverse backgrounds.
I would be happy to accept one or more lawyers who would have been pre-selected by your Bar, bearing in mind that the candidate must be a member of your Bar and must satisfy the programme’s requirements, which means being fluent in French, being less than 40 years of age, and being covered by legal liability insurance.
Applications can be submitted until June 30.
Lastly, I would like to mention that courses are entirely free as they are totally funded by the Paris Bar. The trainee is responsible for travel costs, as well as accommodation and living expenses in Paris.
However, participants can benefit from a scholarship offered by the French Embassy. I have sent a letter to the French Embassy of your country, so that appropriate measures might be taken to set up one or more scholarships for lawyers from your Bar who are selected to participate in the traineeship. Nevertheless, it depends on the resources of each Embassy.
I look forward to welcoming lawyers from your Bar in Paris.
Yours sincerely,
Christiane Féral-Schuhl
