He received his undergraduate degree in 1998 from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette and his JD degree in 2004 from Southern University Law Center. He was admitted to practice in Louisiana in 2004.
Derrick is a member of the Louisiana Association for Justice and the American Association for Justice.
He and his wife, Amy, have been married for six years and are the parents of three children.
