About Buddy Stockwell

J.E. "Buddy" Stockwell III

J.E. "Buddy" Stockwell III is the new Executive Director of the Lawyers Assistance Program, Inc. (LAP) a non-profit corporation that serves the public, the Bar and the profession by assisting, on a confidential basis, lawyers or judges whose professional impairment may stem from alcohol/drug abuse, mental health problems or gambling addiction.

Prior to his tenure with LAP, he was a solo practitioner in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, primarily focusing on Family Law and Child Custody Litigation. He earned a BS in Management from LSU in 1989 and a JD from LSU in 1993 where he was a member of the Appellate Advocacy Board and selected to participate in the Robert M. Tullis Moot Court Competition. Prior to opening his own firm, he practiced as an associate with Roy, Kiesel & Tucker while representing the RTC and FDIC in bank failure cases. He has earned one-hundred-twenty-one hours of accredited study in substance abuse counseling.

He actively served on the LSBA Committee on Alcohol and Drug Abuse for over fifteen years prior to accepting the position as LAP's Executive Director and, over the years, he has been a frequent speaker, LAP monitor, and has assisted in interventions involving lawyers and judges.
