Mandatory Continuing Legal Education

The Committee on Mandatory Continuing Legal Education was created by the Louisiana Supreme Court to administer a compliance program designed to foster attorney competence, ethical and professional behavior through education.

2023 CLE Compliance

For the 2023 compliance period ending December 31, 2023, the limitation for computer-based CLE is set at 4 hours annually (as defined in Rule 3(d) of LASC Rule XXX).  This includes interactive live webcasts, webinars, and on-demand recordings.

The MCLE Compliance Deadline is December 31st, 2023.
Preliminary transcripts emails will be sent the first week of December from compliance@lsbamembership.com. The deadline for earning credits is December 31, 2023, and the deadline for filing those credits or an exemption is January 31, 2024.  Please check your records to be sure you are compliant.

If you qualify for an exemption from 2023 requirements, please right-click the MCLE form and save to your computer. Fill out form completely, including your signature, and send the signed form to mcle@lsba.org by January 31, 2024.

If you are experiencing undue hardship, you should contact the MCLE Director, Mindi Hunter, about your mitigating circumstances. An attorney experiencing serious medical or other issues may qualify for a waiver or some degree of relevant assistance to help reach the compliance requirement for the year.

As a reminder, on November 12, 2021, the Supreme Court issued an Order amending Rule 5. Preliminary transcripts will no longer be mailed. An email will now be sent to the email address you have on file with the LSBA. Please take a moment to make sure your email address is up to date.

If you choose to take a course that is not already approved for LA CLE credit, there is no guarantee it will be approved for LA credit. Please be sure that the sponsor of the course is able to verify your attendance.
