LASC Issues Alert about “Court of Louisiana” Email

The Louisiana Supreme Court is advising LSBA members about an email in circulation purporting to be a Pretrial Notice for an appearance in “The Court of Louisiana.” This email did not originate from the Louisiana Supreme Court. Therefore, the Court says LSBA members should be aware “that any attachment associated with this email may contain a virus and those receiving an email similar to the above should not open the attachment.” The Court and the Clerk’s Office began receiving emails and phone calls about the email in January.

Also, the Louisiana 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal reported it has been targeted by a similar email, with a Subject Line of “Pretrial Notice,” but with an incorrect “Sender” address.

LSBA members should continue to be cautious and vigilant when dealing with any kind of emailed communication, as the incidences of lawyer scams and phishing are still being reported.
