Keeping abreast of new developments in the law through continuing education no longer is just a matter of satisfying CLE requirements - it is a necessity for maintaining a successful practice. The LSBA’s renowned Summer School for Lawyers, now in its 24th year, provides the opportunity for accomplishing these goals in the beautiful, relaxed and fun setting of the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.

Nationally acclaimed speaker Marcia Coyle, Washington Bureau Chief and Supreme Court correspondent for the National Law Journal and contributor to NewsHour, will present a session entitled A Supreme Gumbo: Terrorists, CEOs, Guns & Billions. Former United States Attorney General Dick Thornburgh will present The Global Effort to Contain Official Corruption: A Report Card. Speakers from around the state will share useful information on a variety of topics. Other highlights include an intriguing discussion on The 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund: Precedent or Aberration?; Wind vs. Flood: and Other Trivial and Mundane Matters; Proposed New Advertising Rules: Louisiana Style; Jury Selection: The Insider’s View on How to Pick a Jury and Enjoy Doing It; The Privilege is All Yours: The Exercise, Defense, and Waiver of Testimonial Privileges in State and Federal Court; Credit Crunches, Housing Slumps and Economic Slowdown: What Clients and Lawyers Should Expect this Coming Year in Bankruptcy Court; and What Ever Happened to Family Values? What New Issues Have Arisen in Domestic Cases Since Hurricane Katrina? — Recent Developments. There are many other topics for practitioners of all types. One of the Summer School’s best features is the chance to interact with talented colleagues and judges from throughout Louisiana.

The LSBA is providing an electronic version of the seminar materials for attendees to download. The materials will be made available approximately 2 weeks in advance of the program via a link sent with your registration confirmation. (Internet access will not be available at the seminar.) A printed, bound manual can be purchased for an additional $40. Be sure to make your selection by checking the appropriate box while registering. You cannot change your selection on-site. SEMINAR MANUAL WILL NOT BE PROVIDED UNLESS PURCHASED IN ADVANCE.
