First Class CLE Conference for First Class Women Sponsored by The Louisiana Association of Black Women Attorneys
The Louisiana Association of Black Women Attorneys (LABWA) hosted an incredible CLE Symposium and Rejuvenation Retreat on November 11, 2010 through November 13, 2010 at the Paragon Casino and Resort in Marksville, LA. Organizers Lacrecia Cade, Arlene Knighten, Raashand Hamilton, and Tonya McClary administered a "First Class Conference" for Louisiana's Black Women Attorneys. The CLE presentations superbly addressed timely topics to assist attendees in their professional development.
- Criminal Law for the Civil Lawyer by Tonya McClary educated attendees with primarily civil law practices on how to properly handle criminal matters.
- Motions for Summary Judgment from the Court's Perspective by Shantell Payton and Raashand Hamilton informed attendees on how to effectively prepare motions for summary judgment, as well as alternative preliminary motions.
- Succeeding as a Solo Practitioner by Tony Clayton directed attendees on trial strategies and techniques for a winning practice.
- Insights from U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley inspired attendees to push themselves beyond their comfort zones in order to excel in their respective areas of practice, as well as open doors for increased diversity within the legal profession.
- Spirituality and the Law by Arlene Knighten and Tonya McClary challenged attendees to evaluate balancing personal beliefs and zealous client advocacy.
- The Courtroom Runway by Jaimme Collins sharpened the professionalism of attendees for the courtroom and the office.
- Life Coaching Session by Andi Groomes helped attendees identify individual core values, which will drive them to excel in the legal profession as well as create new opportunities for professional growth.
- Career Planning by Chauntis Jenkins challenged attendees to develop self-marketing plans that will take attendees up to the next level in their respective areas of practice.
LABWA also used the retreat as an opportunity to give back to the community by donating household items for local elderly couple. LABWA thanks all of the outstanding speakers, sponsors, and organizers for their contributions to make this a "First Class Conference" specifically tailored to promote the success of Louisiana's Black Women Attorneys.
