LSBA Disaster Response

Justice Community Disaster Response - Volunteers Needed
Attorney volunteers are needed to help in a variety of ways. Please let us know how you are willing to help by making the contacts suggested below.

Louisiana Civil Justice Center (LCJC)
LCJC is seeking attorney volunteers to work at the hotline. These volunteers will be responding to calls after students and staff complete intake on the calls and identify the legal issue. Local Pro Bono organizations have agreed to accept volunteers who wish to work at the center. Please contact the pro bono organization closest to you if you would like to volunteer to help.

FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs)
As individuals put their lives back together, there will be a need for immediate legal assistance. Through the efforts of our Young Lawyers Division the LSBA is seeking volunteers to go into the Disaster Relief Centers set up by FEMA to give pro bono legal advice and assistance to those affected by the hurricane. Individuals willing to volunteer at the Disaster Relief Centers (DRCs) are asked to Jonathan Rhodes at jonathan.rhodes@lsba.org.

There is a great need to have volunteers take responsibility for coordinating and scheduling attorneys and law students at each of the DRCs. If any of you attorney super heroes would agreed to do this, please contact Monte Mollere - mmollere@lsba.org.

Local Pro Bono Organizations
There may also be a need for attorneys to return calls at locations other than the Louisiana Civil Justice Center (LCJC) or to handle cases that require more extended services than can be done at the DRCs. Local pro bono organizations have agreed to coordinate attorney volunteers who are willing to provide brief telephone advice or accept more involved cases. Please contact the pro bono organization closest to you if you would like to volunteer to help. For a list of programs, please click here: http://www.lsba.org/2007atj/ProBonoOpportunities.pdf.

Please be aware that if the pro bono organization was affected by the disaster, search the displacement records to find the most up to date contact information. To search displacement records, click here.
