2020 MCLE Hurricane Exemption

Due to the unprecedented hurricanes that have impacted so many of the attorneys in this state, the Louisiana Supreme Court Committee on Mandatory Continuing Legal Education has agreed that an exemption for hardship caused by the hurricanes is justified for impacted attorneys for the year 2020.

Click here to download the Exemption Form created to accommodate those who have had substantial damage to their home and/or office. You must fill out the form in order to get the exemption. The Committee is not requiring documentation of damages, only the signature of the attorney filing for the waiver. It is not necessary to wait until the end of the year to file this exemption and it is strongly recommended that you take this step as soon as possible. The signed form can be mailed or emailed; please see the form for directions on how to submit it. Your exemption will be reflected on your online transcript.

There may also be attorneys who have encountered a serious hardship in 2020 unrelated to the hurricanes. If you need assistance in obtaining your hours or find you may be unable to satisfy the requirements, please contact MCLE Director Mindi Hunter through the mail or via email at mindi.hunter@lsba.org. Requests unrelated to the hurricane events will be handled through the Exemptions, Extensions and Substituted Compliance Subcommittee and are privacy-protected. The subcommittee has more options to help you if you contact them sooner rather than later, so please forward your request now.
