10th Annual Conclave on Diversity in the Legal Profession

The LSBA, the Louisiana Supreme Court, and a host of statewide local and specialty bar associations hosted the Tenth Annual Conclave on Diversity in the Legal Profession. The year’s theme was “Diversity is Good for Everyone.” Conclave highlights included:

  • Luncheon keynote speaker Samuel Reeves, SVP and senior counsel at Walmart Stores, Inc., nationally recognized advocate for diversity in the legal industry.
  • Diversity and Inclusion Workshop Presenter
    Shawn C. Marsh, Ph.D., Director of Judicial Studies and an Associate Professor of Communication Studies and Social Psychology, University of Nevada, Reno. He is the former Chief Program Officer for Juvenile Law at the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges where he taught extensively on topics such as implicit bias and trauma-responsive justice, and oversaw a myriad of national projects focused on child welfare, juvenile justice, school engagement, and trauma/victimization. The goal – to identify ways to increase technique sound decision-making and fairness guided by science.”
  • Two breakout sessions (Immigration and Best Practices) facilitated by highly credentialed speakers that provoked discussions regarding the scope and meaning of inclusion, the state of the profession, and the case for a diverse and inclusive legal profession.

Excellence in Diversity Reception
The Excellence in Diversity Jazz Brunch Reception honoring Diversity Signatories of the LSBA Statement of Diversity Principles will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017, at the New Orleans Marriott at 7:45 a.m. – 8:45 a.m.  Speakers, sponsors, and Conclave registrants are invited to attend.  Entertainment will be provided by JB Saax

The LSBA is working on ways to reduce the amount of paper we use at seminars and symposia.  This is an effort both to be responsible toward our environment and to increase the quality and timeliness of the resources provided through this learning experience.
