Proactive Action: Getting Serious about Bias Disruption in the Workplace

Whether we are aware of them or not, implicit biases are the set thermostats in every environment. They will operate automatically unless we adjust them. This session will focus on changing those settings, i.e., how to interrupt and disrupt biases that lead to harmful and disparate results. We will look at law firm practices and policies that, even when unintentional, can cause harm. Address the importance of viewing policies and practices ethically. We will also discuss individual behaviors, microaggressions, and the benefits of bringing one's authentic self to work without fear so that people do not have to "cover" to thrive (or survive) in the workplace. We will discuss active intervention steps and allyship. Participants will leave with a roadmap to help them be a part of the change needed to create an inclusive and equitable work culture.

Overcoming Diversity and Inclusion Challenges in Recruiting, Hiring, and Retention

We all know that diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the forefront of the issues of legal recruiting, hiring, and retention, but what role do formalized diversity initiatives play in helping us attract and retain diverse candidates? Panelists will lead an open dialogue that explores diversity and inclusion efforts which have been put into place at their respective firms. Through this interactive session, participants will be encouraged to discuss the value of formalizing diversity efforts and remaining steadfast in their approach when met with diversity, equity, and inclusion challenges in our ever-changing industry.

Multimodal Leadership: A Framework for Leading and Motivating High Performing Diverse Teams

Effective leadership requires developing the skills and tactics to build, manage, and nurture high-performing, diverse, and multi-generational teams. Leading through this period of disruption in the legal industry is not a "one size fits all." Law firm partners and leaders who adopt a more tailored approach that acknowledges cultural and generational differences are more likely to attract and retain top talent and foster the type of teamwork that clients value.
