Message from LSBA President Joseph L. (Larry) Shea, Jr.: Your Help is Needed with the Oct. 23 “Lawyers in Libraries” Day of Service Event

Attorneys across the state have already offered their time and experience on Oct. 23 to provide an incredibly valuable service to those who lack counsel by agreeing to have brief consultations or provide community education to local library patrons.

“An underlying theme of my LSBA presidency is an emphasis on promoting the great contributions attorneys provide to their communities, as well as building a framework to better connect the public with legal representation,” said LSBA President Joseph L. (Larry) Shea, Jr. “Lawyers in Libraries” serves this function. By partnering with the libraries, attorneys and their community services will be more visible and accessible to the public. Interested attorneys can volunteer their services at their local libraries by contacting LSBA Access to Justice Self-Represented Litigation Counsel Michael W. Schachtman at (504)619-0145 or emailing michael.schachtman@lsba.org. The LSBA’s “Lawyers in Libraries” initiative supports Louisiana’s participation in the National Pro Bono Celebration Week (Oct. 19-25).
