Papillion, Mire, Chabert, Tate Nominated for LSBA, YLD Leadership Positions Darrel J. Papillion of Baton Rouge and Alainna R. Mire of Alexandria have been nominated for the positions of 2015-16 Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA) president-elect and 2015-17 LSBA secretary, respectively. The LSBA’s Nominating Committee formulated these recommendations on Aug. 22 and presented its report to the Board of Governors on Aug. 23. The Young Lawyers Division (YLD) Council nominated Scotty E. Chabert, Jr. of Baton Rouge for 2015-16 YLD chair-elect and Bradley J. Tate of Baton Rouge for 2015-16 YLD secretary. Papillion is a partner in the firm of Walters, Papillion, Thomas, Cullens, L.L.C., in Baton Rouge. Mire is an assistant attorney in the Alexandria City Attorney’s Office. Chabert is an assistant district attorney for the 18th Judicial District and a partner in the firm of Saunders & Chabert in Baton Rouge. Tate is tax manager for the firm of Postlethwaite & Netterville in Baton Rouge. Self-Qualifying Deadline is Oct. 20 Several leadership positions are open in the 2014-15 LSBA election cycle. On Monday, Sept. 22, notice of the action of the Nominating Committee and self-qualification forms for positions on the Board of Governors, LSBA House of Delegates, Nominating Committee, Young Lawyers Division and American Bar Association House of Delegates will be provided to the membership. Deadline for return of nominations by petition and qualification forms is Monday, Oct. 20. First election ballots will be available to members on Monday, Nov. 17. Deadline for electronically casting votes is Monday, Dec. 15. The LSBA president-elect will automatically assume the presidency in 2016-17. According to the president-elect rotation, the nominee must have his/her preferred mailing address in Nominating Committee District 2 (parishes of Ascension, Assumption, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Jefferson, Lafourche, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. James, St. John the Baptist, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, Washington, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana). According to the secretary rotation, the nominee must have his/her preferred mailing address in Nominating Committee District 3 (parishes of Acadia, Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Calcasieu, Cameron, Caldwell, Catahoula, Claiborne, Concordia, DeSoto, East Carroll, Evangeline, Franklin, Grant, Iberia, Jackson, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, LaSalle, Lincoln, Madison, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Ouachita, Rapides, Red River, Richland, Sabine, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, Tensas, Union, Vermilion, Vernon, Webster, West Carroll and Winn). For the 2014-15 election cycle, balloting will be conducted electronically only, as approved by the LSBA Board of Governors. No paper ballots will be provided. Other Positions Open Other positions to be filled in the 2014-15 elections are: Board of Governors (three-year terms beginning at the adjournment of the 2015 LSBA Annual Meeting and ending at the adjournment of the 2018 LSBA Annual Meeting): one member each from the Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Board districts. LSBA House of Delegates (two-year terms beginning at the commencement of the 2015 LSBA Annual Meeting and ending at the commencement of the 2017 LSBA Annual Meeting): one delegate from each of the 20th through 42nd Judicial Districts, plus one additional delegate for every additional district judge in each district. Petitions for nomination must be signed by 15 members of the Young Lawyers Division. Also to be elected, one representative each from the First, Second, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Eighth districts (two-year terms). American Bar Association House of Delegates (must be a member of the American Bar Association): one delegate from the membership at large. The delegate will serve a two-year term, beginning with the adjournment of the 2015 ABA Annual Meeting and expiring at the adjournment of the 2017 ABA Annual Meeting, as provided in Paragraph 6.4(e) of the ABA Constitution.
