Application Deadline Extended to July 3 for Leadership LSBA 2015/16 Class

LSBA President-Elect Mark A. Cunningham is currently seeking applications from young lawyers for the Leadership LSBA 2015/2016 Class. All applicants must have been admitted to the practice of law for at least two years (admitted before May 2013). This program was created in 2002 by LSBA President Larry Feldman, Jr. and provides exposure to how the LSBA functions as well as the pressing issues that face the Association and the legal profession. It also provides participants with general information on the responsibilities of volunteer leaders. Through at least one project (previous projects included a high school art contest, a series of pro bono CLEs, a 5K benefiting the Lawyers Assistance Program, and a legal aid hackathon), the program strives to further develop young attorneys’ leadership skills and to provide them with opportunities for statewide networking. Prior classes have ranged in size from 5 to 16.

By conclusion of FY 2015/2016 (which ends in June 2016), participants will be required to:
  • Attend one meeting of the Board of Governors;
  • Attend one meeting of the House of Delegates;
  • Attend one meeting of the Young Lawyers Division Council;
  • Attend one Budget Committee meeting;
  • Attend one meeting of the Access to Justice Committee;
  • Attend one meeting of an LSBA committee of their choice;
  • Work with their class to develop and implement a class projects with the help of staff; and
  • Commit to serve on an LSBA committee for 2016/2017.

For the above events and other activities (with the exception of the Annual Meeting in Sandestin), the LSBA will reimburse expenses in accordance with existing policies.  At the conclusion of the year, class members who have completed all requirements will be recognized at the LSBA Annual Meeting.

So that these appointments may be made by mid-July, candidates should send their completed application (see below) along with a resume or CV, no later than Friday, July 3, to:
