Valerie Briggs Bargas is a partner with Long Law Firm in Baton Rouge, where her practice focuses on insurance defense, professional liability, medical malpractice defense, business litigation and succession and estate planning matters. She represents businesses and insurers in complex litigation and advises clients on corporate and business law issues.
Bargas earned her AB,
cum laude, from Smith College in 1998 and her JD from Tulane Law School in 2001. She was admitted to practice in Louisiana in 2001 and is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit.
Bargas has been active in the LSBA, having served as chair of the Young Lawyers Division 2008–09 and as a member of the Board of Governors and as a member of the House of Delegates. She has also served on the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board in multiple roles, including as a hearing committee officer, board member and advisory committee member.
She is a past president of the Louisiana Bar Foundation and remains active as a Fellow and former member of its Board of Directors. Her professional affiliations include the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, Baton Rouge Bar Association, American Bar Association and the American Board of Trial Advocates. She also serves as president of the Dean McMahon Inn of Court.
Bargas has received numerous honors, including the Louisiana Bar Foundation Pro Bono Publico Award and the Judge Joseph Keogh Memorial Award from the Baton Rouge Bar Association. She has been recognized by
Super Lawyers and was previously named a Super Lawyers Rising Star.
