Young Lawyers Division

The purpose of the Young Lawyers Division is to foster discussions and interchange of ideas relative to the duties, responsibilities and problems of the younger members of the legal profession in the State of Louisiana; to aid in their advancement; to encourage their interest and participation in the activities of the Louisiana State Bar Association, and, in general, to further the purposes and objectives of the LSBA. This site is a public service of the LSBA-YLD Council, providing YLD information to the public, communicating with YLD members.

LSBA Young Lawyers Division Award Nominations
Nominations are open for five LSBA Young Lawyers Division awards — the Hon. Michaelle Pitard Wynne Professionalism Award, the Outstanding Young Lawyer Award, the Outstanding Local Affiliate Award, the Program of the Year Award and the YLD Pro Bono Award. To be eligible for consideration, individual nominees must be a current member of the YLD (attorneys who have not yet reached the age of thirty-nine (39) years or who has been admitted to the practice of law for less than five (5) years) in good standing. The YLD Council selects award winners from recommendations made by a Committee of young lawyers appointed from around the state. Descriptions of each award are listed below. Outstanding Young Lawyer Award:
This award is given to a young lawyer who has made exceptional contributions to  the legal profession and their community.

Outstanding Local Affiliate: This award is given to a local affiliate organization that has impacted the lives of young lawyers in an outstanding way.

Program of the Year: This award is given to an organization (bar association, firm, or other entity) that has implemented an outstanding program or service that serves the public or the profession and enhances the lives of young lawyers or was primarily planned by young lawyer(s).

Hon. Michaelle Pitard Wynne Professionalism Award: This award is given to a young lawyer for commitment and dedication to upholding the quality and integrity of the legal profession and consideration towards peers and the general public.

YLD Pro Bono Award:This award is given to a young lawyer for commitment and dedication to providing pro bono services in his/her community or the state at large

2020 Richard N. Ware, IV State High School Mock Trial Competition 

The 2020 Richard N. Ware, IV State High School Mock Trial Competition is the culmination of four regional championships coordinated annually by the LSBA Young Lawyers Division. The competition is named in memory of the Honorable Richard N. Ware, IV, who enthusiastically volunteered for nearly a decade as the presiding judge of the final round of the Louisiana High School Mock Trial Competition.
