Young Lawyers Division


The purpose of the Young Lawyers Division is to foster discussions and interchange of ideas relative to the duties, responsibilities and problems of the younger members of the legal profession in the State of Louisiana; to aid in their advancement; to encourage their interest and participation in the activities of the Louisiana State Bar Association, and, in general, to further the purposes and objectives of the LSBA. This site is a public service of the LSBA-YLD Council, providing YLD information to the public, communicating with YLD members.

Free LSBA Level Up Learning: Voir Dire CLE Seminar – May 21, Noon – 1 PM

2025 State High School Mock Trial Competition
2025 Mock Trial winners Caddo Magnet School of Shreveport, LACongratulations to Caddo Parish Magnet High School of Shreveport, LA, winners of 2025 Richard N. Ware IV Memorial State High School Mock Trial Competition! The competition, held annually and coordinated by the LSBA’s Young Lawyers Division, took place on March 29 at the John M. Shaw United States Courthouse in Lafayette, LA. Thank you to our volunteers for making this invaluable learning experience possible for high school students interested in the legal profession!

Pictured are, from left, Best Attorney winners Bailey Burns (Episcopal School of Baton Rouge and Kennedy Varner (Caddo Magent High School); and far right is Best Witness Amara Nwabuze (Zachary High School). The State High School Mock Trial Competition is the culmination of four regional championships coordinated annually by the LSBA Young Lawyers Division. The competition is named in memory of the Honorable Richard N. Ware, IV, who enthusiastically volunteered for nearly a decade as the presiding judge of the final round of the Louisiana High School Mock Trial Competition.

2025 Louisiana Young Lawyers Conference was a success
2025 Louisiana Young Lawyers Conference - Held April 11, 2025The LSBA Young Lawyers Division held its annual Louisiana Young Lawyers Conference in New Orleans on April 11, 2025 at the New Orleans Marriott Warehouse Arts District. The event drew young attorneys from across the state for a full day of dynamic CLE sessions, professional development and networking. Programming focused on practical skills, career advancement and emerging trends in the legal field. Hosted by the LSBA Young Lawyers Division, the conference also featured a keynote address by former Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards and an awards ceremony honoring outstanding contributions by young lawyers. You can view more information on programming here. The third year of Top 40 Young Lawyers were recognized along with the recipients of the yearly YLD awards.
