Shayna L. Sonnier Installed as 83rd President of the Louisiana State Bar Association

NEW ORLEANS—Shayna L. Sonnier, an attorney in the Lake Charles law firm of Veron Bice, LLC, was installed June 8 as the 83rd president of the Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA) during a ceremony at the LSBA’s Annual Meeting in Destin, Fla. Administering her oath of office was Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice John L. Weimer.

LSBA to Receive 2023 Harrison Tweed Award from American Bar Association

LSBA Members, Local and Specialty Bars Honored with Young Lawyers Division Awards; Inaugural Top 40 List Recognized

NEW ORLEANS—Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA) members, local bar associations and a specialty bar association received LSBA Young Lawyers Division awards, including the inaugural Top 40 List, presented to the state’s top young lawyers who have made exceptional contributions to the legal profession and their communities. All awards were presented during the Louisiana Young Lawyers Conference on March 31, with the theme “Empowered to Lead.”

LSBA Hosts Inaugural Access to Justice Conclave

NEW ORLEANS—The Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA) and Loyola University College of Law hosted the first Access to Justice Conclave in March at the Louisiana Supreme Court. LSBA 2022-23 President Stephen I. Dwyer and Loyola College of Law Dean Madeleine M. Landrieu convened access to justice thought leaders for input on efforts that can have a lasting impact on ensuring assistance for low-income Louisianians with legal issues.

LSBA Honors Exceptional Louisiana Pro Bono Work

NEW ORLEANS—The Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA) held its 38th annual Pro Bono Publico & Children’s Law Awards Ceremony on May 17 at the Louisiana Supreme Court in New Orleans. Louisiana’s seven Supreme Court Justices presided over the ceremony in an official court session to demonstrate their fervent support for pro bono and the efforts of the volunteers being honored.

Jesuit High School Wins 2023 State High School Mock Trial Competition

NEW ORLEANS—The mock trial team from Jesuit High School is the winner of the 2023 Judge Richard N. Ware IV Memorial High School Mock Trial Competition. The competition, conducted on March 25 at the 24th Judicial District Court in Gretna, is coordinated by the Louisiana State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division.
