Manuscript Policy and Guidelines for Feature Articles

1. Authors should contact Journal Editor before writing the article to determine if the topic meets the needs of the publication and to discuss focus and scope of the topic. Download a Feature Proposal form here and email form to publications@lsba.org. Preference is given to members of the Louisiana State Bar Association and, particularly, to members who have not had an opportunity to publish articles in the Journal.
   
   
2. Length of articles should not exceed 1,800 to 2,400 words, approximately eight pages, if printed, on 8 1/2" x 11" paper. 
   
   
3. All citations should follow the style in The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, with the exception of the following:

4. The article may be emailed (preferred) or submitted using Microsoft Word. The article should be typed clean, without being stylized. Also, we will need a short biography and a recent high-resolution photograph for each author. At the conclusion of the article, list three to five key words or short phrases that will assist in preparation of a subject index.
    
   
5. No compensation is made for articles published in the Louisiana Bar Journal.
    
   
6. Articles accepted for publication become the property of the Louisiana Bar Journal. Authors must sign a Copyright Assignment and Indemnity Form prior to publication.
    
   
7. No articles will be considered that have been submitted simultaneously to another publication or that have been published in another publications.
    
   
8. Submission of an article does not guarantee consideration for any particular issue. Often articles are selected issues ahead. An article, therefore, may be considered for possible publication in a future issue(s). All manuscripts are carefully reviewed and considered by the editor and/or the board of editors.
   
   
9. Following the Fifth Circuit’s ruling in Boudreaux v. LSBA, 86 F.4th 620 (5th Cir. 2023), the Journal maintains a policy of strict neutrality. Articles must avoid political advocacy or subjective commentary, including critiques of judicial opinions. Authors should present case summaries objectively. The Editorial Board reserves the right to edit submissions to ensure neutrality, compliance with AP Style, and overall clarity.
    
   
10. Original articles may be emailed (preferred) or hard copies may be mailed to the editor:
