About the Committee:

The mission of the Legal Services for Persons with Disabilities Committee shall be to provide members of the bench, bar and the general public with a greater understanding and knowledge of the legal needs and rights of persons with disabilities; to better meet the legal needs of persons with disabilities, and to increase the knowledge that persons with disabilities have regarding their rights and resources.

Committe History:

The Committee was established by Eastern District Court Judge Jay C. Zainey during his tenure as LSBA Bar President in 1995-1996. Since then, the Committee continues to carry out its mission by sponsoring important trainings to help support attorneys within the practive area of disability law and law students interested in disability advocacy. 

The Committee Today:

Today, the Legal Services for Persons with Disabilities Committee's 2022-2023 Bar Year Co-Chairs are Chris Edmunds, Attorney at Law and Debra Weinberg, Director of Community Advocacy at Disability Rights Louisiana.
