Louisiana Supreme Court Warns of Text Message Scam Targeting Residents

The Louisiana State Bar Association is alerting its members to a scam identified by the Louisiana Supreme Court in which individuals receive fraudulent text messages from a nonexistent “Louisiana Superior Court.” The Louisiana Supreme Court emphasized that no court by that name exists.

Recipients have reported receiving text messages from an entity identifying itself as the “Louisiana Superior Court.” The messages claim the recipient has an “outstanding traffic ticket” and must pay a fee to avoid repercussions.

The Louisiana Supreme Court emphasized that no court by the name “Louisiana Superior Court” exists. Additionally, the court does not send text messages or emails threatening prosecution or demanding payment for traffic violations or related fees.

LSBA members are encouraged to remain vigilant and to advise clients, colleagues and staff of this scam. Lawyers may encounter clients who are confused or concerned after receiving such messages, making awareness critical to preventing potential financial harm.

Individuals who receive suspicious communications purporting to be from a court should avoid responding or providing any personal or financial information. Instead, they should contact the appropriate court directly using verified contact information.

For questions or to report concerns related to this scam, individuals may contact the Louisiana Supreme Court Clerk of Court’s Office or review the latest news alerts from the Louisiana Supreme Court.
