Volunteers Sought for 2018 "Suit Up for the Future" Program

Attorneys have several opportunities to volunteer with students in the 2018 LSBA Suit Up for the Future High School Summer Legal Institute and Internship Program.

This program is available to incoming high school juniors, seniors, and recent graduates who are interested in the legal profession. Students participate in a three-week legal institute in June, during which they attend an abridged law school session, field trips to law schools and courts, and an internship consisting of shadowing at area law offices and courts. The program will be held June 11 - June 29, 2018.

Volunteer for 1 Hour. Throughout the three-week program, attorneys are invited to volunteer their time from 12-1 p.m. to talk with the participating students. If you are interested in participating, please contact the Member Outreach and Diversity staff at diversity@lsba.org.

Shadowing Opportunities. Students are assigned to “shadow” attorneys at firms, courts and organizations during the second week of the program. This is a great opportunity for students to see for themselves what attorneys do on a daily basis; and to spend one-on-one time with attorneys in the workforce.  If you or your firm would be interested in providing a shadowing opportunity for one or more Suit Up students, please contact diversity@lsba.org.

The LSBA hosts the annual internship program in partnership with the Just the Beginning Foundation and the Louisiana Bar Foundation. Over the course of the program, students will be introduced to lawyers, legal documents, and the legal system all designed to assist them in pondering one important question, “Do I really want to be a lawyer?”
