In 2026, Board Certified Specialists and Applicants Who Are 65 or Over May Earn All of Their Required Approved Specialization CLE Either in Person or Through “Computer-Based CLE” Credits The Louisiana Supreme Court amended Rule XXX of the Rules for Continuing Legal Education, modifying the long-standing age-based exemption for attorneys, by Order dated November 10, 2025. Under the revised Louisiana Supreme Court rule, attorneys who turn 65 on or after January 1, 2026, may earn all of their required CLE through computer-based programming. See the official notice here.Considering the November 10, 2025 Order of the Louisiana Supreme Court, the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization (“LBLS”) approved board certified specialists and applicants, who are age 65 or older in 2026, earning their required hours of specialization CLE either in person or online in 2026. For the 2026 compliance period ending December 31, 2026, board certified specialists and applicants, who are age 65 or older in 2026, are no longer subject to the limitation on “computer-based CLE” at four (4) hours annually. “Computer-based CLE” includes interactive live webcasts, webinars, and on-demand recordings. The LBLS Board did not change any of the required number of specialization CLE hours for board certified specialists, no matter what their age. Board certified specialists and applicants, younger than 65 years old, remain subject to the limitation on “computer-based CLE” at four (4) hours annually.
