Elections: Self-Qualifying Deadline is Oct. 17 Several leadership positions are open in the 2016-17 LSBA election cycle, including positions on the Board of Governors, LSBA House of Delegates, Nominating Committee, Young Lawyers Division and American Bar Association House of Delegates.Deadline for return of nominations by petition and qualification forms is Monday, Oct. 17. First election ballots will be available to members on Monday, Nov. 14. Deadline for electronically casting votes is Monday, Dec. 12. Balloting will be conducted electronically only; no paper ballots will be provided. Current Nominations In August, Barry H. Grodsky of New Orleans and John E. (Eddie) McAuliffe, Jr. of Metairie were nominated for the positions of 2017-18 LSBA president-elect and 2017-19 LSBA secretary, respectively. The Nominating Committee also accepted the nominations of John M. Church for the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center representative for 2017-19; Ronald J. Scalise, Jr. for the Tulane University Law School representative for 2017-19; and L. Kent Breard, Jr. for the Louisiana State Law Institute representative for 2017-19. The Young Lawyers Division (YLD) Council nominated Dylan T. Thriffiley of New Orleans for 2017-18 YLD chair-elect and Scott L. Sternberg for 2017-18 YLD secretary. Board of Governors (three-year terms beginning at the adjournment of the 2017 LSBA Annual Meeting and ending at the adjournment of the 2020 LSBA Annual Meeting) — one member each from the First, Second, Third and Fifth districts. LSBA House of Delegates (two-year terms beginning at the commencement of the 2017 LSBA Annual Meeting and ending at the commencement of the 2019 LSBA Annual Meeting) — one delegate from each of the Twentieth through Forty-Second Judicial Districts, plus one additional delegate for every additional district judge in each district. Petitions for nomination must be signed by 15 members of the Young Lawyers Division. American Bar Association House of Delegates (must be members of the American Bar Association) — one delegate from the membership at large. The delegate will serve a two-year term, beginning with the adjournment of the 2017 ABA Annual Meeting and expiring at the adjournment of the 2019 ABA Annual Meeting, as provided in Paragraph 6.4 of the ABA Constitution.
