SPOT Mentoring

The Committee on the Profession offers comprehensive mentoring through the TIP “Transition into Practice” Program to newly admitted attorneys. As a young lawyer, you will continue to have questions surrounding the profession in your early years. To continue your transition into the practice, an episodic, or on-demand program was developed.

SPOT Mentoring allows individual and eligible LSBA attorneys to initiate contact with a volunteer SPOT Mentor on the numerous questions a lawyer out in the practice 2-7 years may encounter. We have a database of over 700 mentors working in a wide range of fields to answer your questions.

The SPOT Mentoring program allows you to seek advice, guidance, or information from mentors by posting questions in a secure email format on the LSBA website. All SPOT Mentors will receive the inquiry. SPOT Mentors will reply to the questions in the same email format. If the SPOT Mentor agrees, the parties can even meet (in person, via phone, or virtually)- probably just once- to discuss the topic raised by the inquiring lawyer.

Examples of possible SPOT Mentoring questions you might post include:

• Career Development: firm culture, time management, work/life management, receiving feedback, seeking opportunities internally and externally
• Legal Practice Skills: writing, oral communication, negotiation, technical skills
• Professionalism: ethics, civility, integrity, elimination of bias, system equity
• Practice Development: networking, thought leadership, client entertainment, external involvement
• Client Service/Management: business solutions, responsiveness, articulating client value, counseling clients
• Family/Work Integration: parental leave, working parents, eldercare, family resources

This innovative program is a great resource and aid to you. Other young attorneys who have utilized the program have found it to be very beneficial and have aways gotten a wealth of valuable advice from our database of mentors.

There is no need to register for the program. You are already eligible based on your years of admission. Just log into your LSBA account to get started!
