Three-Part Level Up Learning Series on Taking and Defending Depositions starts on March 20 with “Taking and Defending Depositions: Parties and Witnesses”
The LSBA YLD, in partnership with Greater New Orleans Louis A. Martinet Legal Society, Inc. ('Martinet Society") and LSBA Civil Law and Litigation Section, will host the "Level Up Learning" series, “Taking and Defending Depositions,” on Wednesday, March 20, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Louisiana Bar Center, 601 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans, or via Zoom access. This seminar will be presented by Atoyia Scott Harris (special counsel, Proskauer Rose LLP, and former executive board member of the Martinet Society) and Michael Harrison (senior counsel, Kuchler Polk Weiner, and Martinet Society Treasurer). The free CLE seminar is open to young lawyers only and in-person attendance is limited. Pre-registration is required. Program organizers have applied for 1 hour of CLE credit.

This three-part practical CLE series will provide young lawyers with the fundamental tools to depose a party, an expert witness, a representative of a corporate entity or an expert confidently. Common obstacles presented during depositions will be addressed and useful tactics will be discussed for experienced attorneys seeking additional grounding in deposition strategies. The panels will discuss the dos and don'ts of deposing witnesses while offering useful tips and pointers on how to avoid common deposition pitfalls. Introducing exbibits and preserving privileges will also be discussed throughout the series. Please save the date for Part 2 of the series, Expert Depositions, on July 10, 2024, and Part 3 of the series, Corporate Depositions, on September 11, 2024.
