Disabilities Series


The Disabilities CLE Series hosted by the LSBA Diversity Committee’s Pipeline to Diversity and Outreach Subcommittee is a great opportunity for attorneys to network and obtain CLE credit hours. The Disabilities series focuses on liability, ethics issues in the event an attorney experiences a short or long-term disability, social security appeals, and long-term planning for the special needs client.

Seminar Topics: 

Long-Term Planning for the Special Needs Client
This session discusses long-term care insurance, Medicaid eligibility, and financial/legal planning for disabled family members--including special needs trusts designed to preserve eligibility for governmental benefits. 

Fit To Practice
This session discusses how substance abuse, as well as physical and mental health disabilities affect people of all professions. Attendees are provided rescources available in Louisiana to navigate personal and vicarious liability during short or long-term disabilities. 

Introduction to Social Security Appeals/Social Security: Overview of the Law, Operating Terms and Procedure
This session provides a cursory overview of social security appeals, and includes practical tips for ensuring high-quality representation and garnering business. 

Special Education Law 101: Student Rights & School Responsibilities
This session provides an overview of special education basics, IEPs, Disciplinary policies, student eligibility for special services and administrative appeals.
