Louisiana Supreme Court Amends Rule XIX to Allow Pro Bono, Community Service in Certain Disciplinary Matters The Louisiana Supreme Court has amended Rule XIX, Section 10, to allow pro bono legal services or similar community service to be included as a condition in certain lawyer disciplinary matters.Under the amendment, a lawyer may agree to complete a fixed number of hours of pro bono legal service or other community service as a condition of certain disciplinary dispositions. The Chief Disciplinary Counsel and Board Administrator are directed to establish rules for monitoring the program and maintaining a list of approved participating organizations. The service may include legal representation through an indigent defender board or legal services organization, as well as support services, and generally should be tailored to the lawyer’s professional skills.
