Upcoming Lecture Explores LSBA Legal History Through "A Bayou Bar" Book Discussion
The Law Library of Louisiana, in collaboration with the Supreme Court of Louisiana Historical Society and the Friends of the University of New Orleans Library, will present a lecture examining the early history of the Louisiana State Bar Association.
The lecture will feature a conversation between UNO Press editor-in-chief Abram Himelstein and renowned historian and author Warren M. Billings. The discussion will spotlight Professor Billings’s latest book, A Bayou Bar: The Louisiana State Bar Association, 1804–1941, which traces the formation and evolution of the LSBA during its foundational years.
Professor Billings, Distinguished Professor of History, Emeritus at the University of New Orleans, is a leading scholar of colonial Virginia and Louisiana legal history. Over the course of his academic career, he served as Chair of UNO’s History Department and authored numerous publications on Louisiana’s legal heritage. Click here to find out more.
