The LSBA is not responsible for any expenses associated with travel, lodging, or other costs incurred by the registrant. This also applies if the LSBA must cancel the conference for any reason. 

Audio or video recording or transcription of any portion of the conference is prohibited unless express consent is granted by the LSBA. 

Registration Cancellation Policy:
All cancellations must be received in writing and sent to diversity@lsba.org. 
Telephone cancellations will not be accepted. Cancellations received in writing before 
May 16, 2024, will be fully refunded minus a $15.00 administrative fee. If written confirmation of cancellation is not received by May 16, 2024, no refunds or credits will be issued of any kind. Credits will be processed within three weeks of the cancellation request. 

ON-SITE REGISTRATION WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE
On-site Registration Policy:  
It is the policy of the LSBA that 
NO CASH shall be accepted for any transaction. Payment may be made by personal check or via the LSBA registration portal if open on the day of the conference. Due to limited capacity, on-site registration is not expected to be available.

The session will examine how increased cultural competence can make us better practitioners and improve our client relationships. We will explore strategies to recognize and address implicit bias, define cultural humility, and learn how cultural competency tools can benefit our legal practice and the legal profession.

In this highly interactive conversational session, attendees will explore the legal foundations and modern complexities of allyship and advocacy for transgender and gender nonconforming people. Vocabulary, interpersonal skills, litigation techniques, and recent legislative developments will all be discussed.

This session will analyze the key players inimmigration and the intersection with criminal law and what a lawyer practicing criminal law needs to know in the representation of foreign born clients.

2:25 p.m. - 3:25 p.m. - Session  Five 1.00 Professionalism Credit Hour Navigating Disability in Legal Practice: Breaking Stereotypes and Building Respect

This session will unravel common misconceptions surrounding disability and highlight the ethical and responsibilities that lawyers bear towards clients with disabilities, both in terms of the law and ethical/ professional standards. From effective communication strategies to accessible service provision, attendees will also glean valuable insights on building trust and rapport with clients with disabilities.


3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. - Session Six 1.00 Ethics Credit Hour Ethics Hodge Podge

Every day, lawyers from around the state call, write, or email questions to the LSBA's Ethics Advisory Service looking for answers to a variety of questions. The Ethics Advisory Service is designed to provide non-binding advice regarding prospective ethical behavior of the lawyer requesting the free, confidential service. Depending on the issue, and how many of the LSBA's members are currently using the service the response time may be affected. In many instances, advice can be provided with a phone call and discussion. Other times, a written response is requested or needed. LSBA Ethics Counsel stand ready to provide members with non-binding conservative advice about the Louisiana Rules of Professional Conduct and the lawyer's prospective conduct to lessen the chance of a disciplinary complaint.
