The mission of the ATJ Commission Language Access Committee is to further educate the Commission regarding current activities and thoughts on how the Commission might further support work on language access to the courts.
The Language Access Committee completed two studies; one from the view of interpreters, and the second focused on attorneys’ understanding of their duty to communicate limited-English proficient (LEP) clients in order to competently advise and to engage an interpreter to facilitate good communication when necessary.
One result of these reports is the development of an attorney reference card, providing information and tips to attorneys engaging an interpreter.
