Responding to a Complaint

The Attorney Disciplinary Process is not a subject often taught in law school and few LA attorneys are familiar with it.  The Practice Assistance and Improvement Committee wants Louisiana attorneys to be both ethical and diligent in living their professional careers. First and foremost, if you have a question concerning your prospective ethical conduct, LA attorneys are encouraged to contact the LSBA’s Ethics Counsel. Simply go to https://www/lsba.org/Members/EthicsAdvisary.aspx for contact information to speak to live attorneys who regularly give advice on Ethics Issues as a free membership service.

The obligations attorneys have are myriad and complex. Duties can be owed to the Court, the Client, Opposing Counsel and the Profession. Practice Defensively. If you find yourself in some type of trouble and need information on the Rules of Professional Conduct, the Disciplinary System and Procedure, or even Malpractice Avoidance, it is hoped that you can find a starting point here. This is by no means a comprehensive guide and you are encouraged to do your own research, speak to Ethics Counsel or engage experienced counsel when needed.
