Disability and Elder Law Project

LIFT is partnering with Disabilities Rights Louisiana (DRLA), the statewide protection and advocay agency for Louisianans with disabilities and the elderly, to launch the Disability and Elder Law Project.

The Project helps solo practitioners build public interest-focused practices, while delivering legal services to people with disabilities and the elderly. Attorneys receive case referrals and mentorship from experienced DRLA lawyers and access to legal research tools, CLEs, networking, and business development training. Case types may include interdiction defense, power of attorney, supported decision making, healthcare proxy, special needs trusts, Medicare/Medicaid appeals, special education, vocational rehabilitation, and disability-related employment matters. An informational webinar about the Disability and Elder Law Project was held on May 29, 2026. Click here to watch a recording of the webinar. Click here to watch a highlight from a prior webinar featuring Ashley Johnson-Alford, a 2025 LIFT graduate, as she explains why she choose to participate in a LIFT project.

Louisiana licensed attorneys with 0-7 years practice experience who want to develop a public interest focused solo practice proving legal services to people with disabilities or the elderly are encouraged to apply. The application period for this project has closed. Questions should be directed to Emily Belanger at emily.belanger@lsba.org or 504-619-0146.
