The LSBA is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(6) entity. LSBA dues may not be recognized as a charitable deduction under the Internal Revenue Code, but may be deducted as a business expense consistent with the Code. However, section 6033(e)(1) dictates that the portion of LSBA dues attributed to government relations is not deductible as a business expense for federal income tax purposes. For 2016/2017, this amount is estimated to be 3% of your LSBA Membership Dues.
