Young Lawyers Division


The purpose of the Young Lawyers Division is to foster discussions and interchange of ideas relative to the duties, responsibilities and problems of the younger members of the legal profession in the State of Louisiana; to aid in their advancement; to encourage their interest and participation in the activities of the Louisiana State Bar Association, and, in general, to further the purposes and objectives of the LSBA. This site is a public service of the LSBA-YLD Council, providing YLD information to the public, communicating with YLD members.

YLD Professional Development CLE

The Louisiana State Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division will present its annual Professional Development CLE seminar on Friday, January 20 at the Renaissance Baton Rouge Hotel (7000 Bluebonnet Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA).  The seminar is open to the first 175 young lawyers who register. Online registration will close at 3 p.m. on Jan. 18, however on-site registration will be available. The program has applied for 4 hours of CLE credit (including 1 hour of ethics, 1 hour of professionalism and 1 hour of law office management). The Professional Development CLE is open to Young Lawyers ONLY. 2017 High School Mock Trial Materials Available Online 2017 High School Mock Trial Materials Available Online

The LSBA YLD is responsible for coordinating local mock trial competitions for high schools throughout the state and for sponsoring the Richard N. Ware IV State High School Mock Trial Competition where all local winners compete.

The 2017 State High School Mock Trial Competition will be held on March 11, 2017 at the 4th Judicial District Court in Monroe, Louisiana. The state winner will then travel to the National High School Mock Trial Competition, which will be held May 11-13, 2017 in Hartford, Connecticut.

The 2017 state case involves a free speech suit, Logan and Hayden Harrison v. Riviere Rapide School District.
